3 Tips for Engaging Employees to be Healthy

Wellness in the workplace is a big topic of conversation for companies looking for ways to cut costs on health care benefits while keeping employees healthy. From offering a nap room to flexible work(out) hours, companies big and small are all thinking of innovative ways to keep their employees fit. Try these 3 tips to get employees to make healthier choices in the workplace.

Offer wholesome snacks.

Having a fully-stocked breakroom is a newer trend, but certainly, one that is here to stay. Instead of offering unhealthy snacks, make sure to include a wide variety of options for people. Swap out chips and soda for protein-packed snacks and sugarless drinks. Companies like SnackNation make ordering healthy snacks in bulk easier with delivery service right to the office.

Create (healthy) competition.

A little healthy competition is good for the soul, as well as getting employees to be more active. Build a wellness program out and provide a physical goal to motivate employees, like training for a 5K or competing on the company softball team.  Setting goals like this will get employees moving while encouraging them to compete against each other for fun.

Offering employees an incentive to change unhealthy behavior has been proven to work. We recently sat down with a Global 500 computer software company that uses incentives to increase wellness program participation. They found that implementing incentives into their program increased participation by 41-60%.

She also blends perfectly on the marketing team, where the two main themes are German Shepherds and tequila.
