It’s no secret that gift cards are awesome. Gift Cards represent an impactful, branded currency and they allow for instant delivery and gratification. In fact, people love getting them so much that they have been the #1 wished-for gift in the U.S. for the past nine years running. We’re not the only ones who are excited about this. Timm Walsh, the President of the Retail Gift Card Association (RGCA), recently wrote an article highlighting the trend that gift cards are the most requested gift in the U.S. year after year. A study conducted by the RGCA of more than 1,000 U.S. consumers found that the desire for gift cards is as strong as ever as well as some interesting preferences shoppers have.
“Consumers want localized gift cards.”
People like options, so it only makes sense that they would opt for gift cards that align with their unique lifestyle. Offering custom catalogs that feature gift cards from all categories of life whether it be based on location, wellness, travel, etc is key to keeping consumers intrigued. Providing gift card options that allow the consumer to further customize their selection makes a big impact in the seemingly small scale of things.
“Gift card storage is being incorporated into mobile wallets.”
As technology evolves, this is the trend we all saw coming. Bulky and easily misplaced physical gift cards are quickly replaceable with their technology-advanced counterparts, e-gift cards. E-gift cards mean instant delivery and gratification which in turn makes consumers very happy. Innovative technology brings consumers closer to the notion of absolute convenience every day, making e-gift cards a natural and necessary advancement in the right direction.
With the holidays right around the corner, we have a pretty good idea of what’s on your wishlist this year. Luckily for the industry, gift cards will be on the majority of peoples’ lists, and we’re thankful for that! To learn how to integrate e-gift cards into your program, check out www.tangocard.com.
